Step 1: Purchase a wood picture frame, approximately 8 x 8 inches.
These can be purchased from most craft stores like Michaels for about $2 or $3. |
Step 2: Using standard wood craft paint, apply a generous amount of paint to the picture frame as shown to the left. |
Step 3: With a standard paint brush, coat the entire picture frame with paint. You may need two coats if you see the paint soaking into the wood too much.
Don't worry about getting paint on the glass center of the picture frame because the paint wipes off pretty easily with a paper towel when you are done. |
Step 4: Lay out your wooden craft cutout embellishments such as these child hands shown to the left. |
Step 5: Paint the embellishments as you did with the picture frame above. |
Step 6: Next, plan out where you want each of the embellishments to go on your picture frame.
Once you have everything the way you want it, you can begin to glue the items on. |
Step 7: With a hot glue gun, apply the wooden craft accent pieces to the picture frame. |
Step 8: Next, hot glue the two clothespins to the frame in a slight "V" shape with the open ends facing down.
These will hold your child's artwork in place. |
Step 9: After the glue dries, your art holder should look similar to this. |
Step 10: You can also add personalization to your art holder by writing the child's name, birthday or year on the frame like we did here. |
Step 11: To hang your art holder on a wall, we are using two pieces of satin ribbon, about one and a half feet long each. You can use a shorter or longer amount upon your personal preference. |
Step 12: Place a generous amount of hot glue on the two ends of the ribbon. |
Step 13: Press the ribbon with hot glue on the ends onto the back of the picture frame as shown to the left. |
Step 14: Take the other two ends of ribbon and create a knot to start your hanger and bow. |
Step 15: Complete your ribbon bow by keeping the knot tight and secure. |
Step 16: Now your art holder is complete and you can hang it on the wall like this. |
The next time your child brings home artwork from school or makes a unique creation at home, you can hang it in your new art holder!
Your child will love the attention their artwork gets in this handcrafted art picture frame holder... |
